Nasarawa Governor Abdullahi Sule Sacks All Commissioners and SSG in Major Reshuffle

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has dismissed all members of the state executive council, including his commissioners and Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barrister Muhammad Aliyu-Ubamdoma. The move was announced on Friday during a special emergency meeting at the Government House in Lafia, shortly after the visit of Vice President Kashim Shetima, who was in the state for a one-day working trip to launch several state projects.
Although the exact reasons for the mass dismissal remain unclear, a senior government official, who wished to remain anonymous, suggested that the governor is known for restructuring the state’s administrative framework. This is not the first time Governor Sule has reshuffled his cabinet—he had previously dissolved the executive council in 2021 to create a more effective and efficient governance structure.
As the situation develops, the people of Nasarawa await further clarification regarding the impact of this decision and its potential consequences for the future direction of the state’s administration.
In a formal statement signed by Mohammed Iliyasu-Idde, the Permanent Secretary for Cabinet Affairs and Special Services, the governor thanked the outgoing officials for their service and contributions to the state. He also wished them well in their future endeavors.
The statement added, “All outgoing council members are directed to hand over their ministry’s affairs and any government property in their possession to the respective permanent secretaries. The SSG is to hand over to the Permanent Secretary for Cabinet Affairs and Special Services.”
Earlier in July 2023, Governor Sule had submitted the names of 17 commissioner-nominees to the Nasarawa State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation as new members of the State Executive Council.
