Nasarawa Governor Expresses Concern Over Theft of Harvested Rice from Government Farm

Abdullahi Sule, Nassarawa State Governor

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has expressed his disappointment over the theft of harvested rice by unknown criminals from a government-owned farm in the Jangwa community, located in the Awe Local Government Area of the state.

The governor made the remarks during a meeting with a delegation from the Azara community, led by His Royal Highness, Sarkin Azara, Dr. Kabiru Musa Ibrahim, at the Government House in Lafia on Thursday. According to a statement from his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Addra, Sule acknowledged the positive yield from the state’s agricultural initiatives but condemned the rise in theft during the harvest period.

“While we are pleased with the harvest, it is disheartening to witness the level of theft that has taken place,” the governor said. He expressed deep concern over the stolen rice, emphasizing the negative impact it has on the state’s efforts to improve food security and bring economic relief to the people.

Governor Sule described the situation as unfortunate, particularly given that the theft occurred at a time when the state is working hard to enhance agricultural production and boost local food security. He called on those involved in the theft to cease their actions, warning that the state government would take decisive action against anyone caught engaging in such illegal activities.

Despite the setback, Sule reassured the public that the state would remain committed to advancing its agricultural agenda, with Nasarawa continuing to prioritize agricultural development. “We will not be discouraged. Nasarawa State will remain at the forefront of agricultural activities,” he stated.

He also took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the traditional rulers and the local communities for their support and cooperation, which have contributed to the successes of the state’s agricultural programs in the region.
