Nigeria Police Force Launches Cybercrime Reporting Platform
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has introduced a new digital platform for Nigerians to report cybercrimes. According to Muyiwa Adejobi, the force’s spokesperson, this platform aims to combat cybercrime and enhance the security of the country’s digital environment.
Adejobi announced on Thursday that the updated domain, [nccc.npf.gov.ng/ereport/signin], incorporates enhanced security features to protect user information and ensure confidentiality. Managed by the NPF National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC), this new reporting platform replaces the previous site at incb.npf.gov.ng.
“The new domain offers improved tracking and response mechanisms to ensure timely and effective action on reported cases,” Adejobi explained.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has urged the public to utilize the new platform for reporting cybercrime activities.
In February, President Bola Tinubu signed the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Amendment Act, 2024, into law, amending sections of the 2015 Cybercrimes Act. However, there have been concerns from stakeholders about security agencies potentially using the Cybercrimes Act to target journalists and activists.
