Nigerian Man Becomes First Black Hiker to Conquer All 282 Munros in Scotland (Video)
David Solomon, a Nigerian residing in Scotland, has made history as the first Black individual to hike all 282 Munros in Scotland. Munros are peaks that rise over 3,000 feet above sea level. Solomon reached this milestone on August 10, 2024, having embarked on the journey in 2020.
A cybersecurity analyst based in the UK, Solomon discovered a passion for hillwalking after conquering his first Munro. “I work during the week and spend my weekends hiking with my dog JJ,” he shared. “In 2020, amidst a challenging period in my life, I set myself the goal of climbing all the Munros. The mountains offered a form of solace and mental relief.”
Solomon’s first climb was Ben Lomond, located on the eastern shore of Loch Lomond and the southernmost of the Munros. Since then, he has conquered numerous peaks including An Teallach, Beinn Alligin, and Schiehallion. His latest achievement involved climbing Buachaille Etive Mòr (Stob Dearg), a prominent and iconic mountain at the head of Glen Etive in the Scottish Highlands.
Originally from Nigeria, Solomon moved to the UK for studies 15 years ago and has since settled there. Now a British citizen with a 12-year-old daughter, he resides in the Scottish Highlands.
