No Summons Issued: House of Reps Clears Air on Wike and DSS DG Amid Rising Crime Concerns

No Summons Issued: House of Reps Clears Air on Wike and DSS DG Amid Rising Crime Concerns

Ahmed Satomi, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on National Security and Intelligence, has clarified that the House did not summon Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike or Department of State Services (DSS) Director General Oluwatosin Ajayi regarding the increasing crime rates in the FCT.

This clarification comes after a motion of urgent public importance was presented by Ismail Dabo Haruna, which addressed the alarming rise in criminal activities, particularly by the “One Chance” operators in Abuja.

In a statement to reporters at the National Assembly on Wednesday, Satomi emphasized that contrary to some media reports, there had been no summons issued to Wike or Ajayi. “There seems to be a misunderstanding regarding the motion introduced by Dabo Haruna, which highlighted the murder of his aide, Miss Nimah Sulaiman, and the urgent need to confront the ‘One Chance’ criminal activities in the FCT,” Satomi explained.

He noted that while the motion was accepted and referred to the relevant committees, it did not entail any official summons to government officials. Instead, the committees are expected to conduct a thorough investigation and collaborate with key stakeholders, including the FCT Minister, the FCT Commissioner of Police, and the DSS Director General, to ensure justice for the victims of these crimes.

Satomi assured that the joint committee is set to commence its work, focusing on security issues and seeking justice for the murder of Nimah Sulaiman.

He also commended the new DSS Director General, highlighting his experience and the crucial role he is expected to play in addressing crime in Abuja. Nimah Sulaiman was abducted by armed men on October 17, 2024, near Bannex Junction, Abuja, and despite her family paying a ransom, she was tragically killed by her captors.
