Obi Criticizes Nigeria’s Poor Roads After Busy Weekend

Peter Obi

Over the past weekend, my schedule was demanding and challenging but ultimately successful, thanks to divine grace. It began with attending the funeral of Dr. Isaac Obi, a dedicated Obidient supporter from Minnesota, USA, in my village.

Next, I paid my respects at the funeral of Mr. Alfred Nwosu, a cherished mentor and one of the finest individuals I’ve known. Following that, I joined other dignitaries at the funeral of Pastor Ngozi Mouka, wife of Pastor Lazarus Mouka, General Overseer of the Lord’s Chosen Ministry, in Imo State.

On Saturday, I embarked on a six-and-a-half-hour road trip from Onitsha to Igarra, Akoko-Edo, to support our Labour Party’s gubernatorial candidate for Edo State, Barrister Olumide Akpata. We continued our campaign through Jattu-Uzairue and Auchi.

The return journey from Auchi to Ekpoma, which should have been shorter, took over an hour and a half due to poor road conditions. From Ekpoma to Benin, a drive that usually takes about two hours, stretched to three hours. The numerous accidents we encountered along the way highlighted the dire state of our roads. It’s disheartening to witness such deterioration and the apparent lack of concern from our leaders.

On Sunday, I attended two Thanksgiving services in Benin City: one at the Holy Cross Cathedral and another service between 8 am and noon. Later, I joined the celebration of Sir Chief Dr. Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion’s 90th birthday at St. Gabriel the Archangel Cathedral. My day ended with the Communities Union Cultural Festival, celebrating the unity and heritage of our state.

These activities underscore our shared commitment to improving Nigeria and reaffirm the strength and unity of our nation.
