Obi–Kwankwaso Alliance Talk Dismissed as ‘Empty Threat’ by Pro-Tinubu Igbo Group Ahead of 2027

A coalition of pro-Tinubu Igbo groups under the banner of NdIgbo for Tinubu 2027 Forum (NDI–ABAT) has brushed aside growing speculation over a possible alliance between Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, insisting the rumoured partnership lacks both structure and electoral weight ahead of the 2027 presidential race.
Speaking through a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and Secretary-General, Dr. Ugwuoke Ugwuoke Jr., the group argued that the proposed ticket—reportedly linked to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) does not present a credible threat to President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The development has attracted attention across political circles, with platforms such as Channels Television and TheCable reporting increased discussions around opposition realignments. However, the NDI–ABAT forum maintained that such talks remain speculative and lack the cohesion required to challenge an incumbent government.
The group pointed to recent engagements between Obi and Kwankwaso, including a high-profile visit to Kano, but cautioned against interpreting such interactions as evidence of a formidable alliance. According to the forum, Nigeria’s opposition landscape remains fragmented, with competing ambitions particularly those linked to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar—likely to complicate any coalition-building efforts.
Reaffirming confidence in Tinubu’s political strength, the group highlighted ongoing mobilisation efforts in the South-East, noting that key figures such as Works Minister David Umahi are playing strategic roles in consolidating support within the region.
While political analysts, as noted by Arise News, continue to describe the 2027 race as fluid and unpredictable, the pro-Tinubu group insisted that emerging alliances within the opposition are unlikely to significantly alter the balance of power.
Despite the dismissal, observers say the coming months will be critical, as negotiations, defections, and shifting loyalties could still redefine the contours of the contest.
