Ondo Governorship: APC Factions Reject Aiyedatiwa, Endorse SDP Candidate

Various factions within the Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have turned against the party’s candidate for the upcoming governorship election on November 16, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa. Instead, they have declared their support for the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate, Benson Akingboye.
In a statement released on Sunday in Abuja, leaders from several APC-affiliated groups, including the APC Solidarity Group, Jagaban Coalition, APC Youth League, and Ondo APC Patriots, voiced their dissatisfaction with Aiyedatiwa’s nomination, which they allege resulted from an unfair primary election.
The statement, attributed to Comrade Dele Oyewo, reads, “We completely reject Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s candidacy. The SDP has emerged as the most favored party in Ondo State, and Benson Akingboye is a far superior choice. We believe he can effectively counter the misleading strategies of both the APC and PDP.”
Oyewo urged the public to disregard rumors claiming that some SDP members had defected to the PDP, labeling these assertions as “fabricated lies.” He highlighted Akingboye’s deep-rooted connections with the PDP and his broad support among various APC factions, attributing it to his commitment to public service.
In response, Alhaji Bala Ibrahim, APC’s Director of Publicity, dismissed allegations of an unfair primary, asserting that Aiyedatiwa’s nomination was valid and that internal dissent posed no threat to the party’s cohesion or electoral prospects.
“These allegations are merely tactics used during election periods to sow confusion,” he stated. “Our members stand united, and we are confident in our ability to win and maintain control of the state.”
