Opatola Mohammed: How Newly Promoted NSCDC Officer Dies Shortly After Receiving Salary

A newly promoted officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), identified as Opatola, attached to the Iwo division, has tragically passed away after receiving his salary.
Reports from The Nation indicate that Opatola collapsed and died in the division’s restroom on Monday, shortly after working for some time at the office.
An anonymous source within the command revealed that the officer, who had been promoted and decorated just a week prior, had resumed work in good health before the unfortunate incident.
The source shared: “We all received the salary alert around the same time as the deceased, and it was quite disappointing. We spoke about it, and Opatola seemed visibly troubled. He had appeared fine when he reported for duty, attended to a few cases, and seemed in good spirits.
“Afterwards, he went to the restroom. When some of his colleagues, who hadn’t heard from him in a while, went to check on him, they found him lying on the floor. He was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead.”
Another source noted, “It’s heartbreaking that Opatola, so recently promoted, passed away just days after his elevation. It’s possible that the shock of the salary disappointment worsened an underlying health condition, which ultimately led to his collapse.”
Attempts to reach Kehinde Adeleke, the spokesperson for the Osun NSCDC Command, for comment were unsuccessful, as she did not respond to phone calls or text messages at the time of this report.
