Osun Amotekun Officer Killed in Suspected Attack by Nigerian Soldier

Peter Samuel Tope, a 35-year-old officer with the Osun Amotekun Corps, has reportedly lost his life following an attack allegedly carried out by a newly enlisted member of the Nigerian Army.

According to a statement released on Sunday by Yusuf Idowu Abass, the Public Relations Officer of the Osun Amotekun Corps, the incident occurred on Saturday, July 26, 2025, in Ijeda, Ijesa, within the Oriade Local Government Area.
The Corps Commander, Isaac Omoyele, revealed that the assault happened around 5:45 p.m. The suspect, identified as Opejobi Fiyinfoluwa, arrived at the Amotekun station in Ijebu-Jesa wearing military camouflage and made threatening comments toward the officers present.
Fiyinfoluwa reportedly declared that part of his motivation for joining the army was to confront and deal with Amotekun personnel firmly.
Eyewitnesses say that soon after his arrival, Officer Tope was viciously attacked. While riding a motorcycle, Tope was stopped by Fiyinfoluwa and several unidentified individuals. Without any provocation, the group launched a violent assault, with Fiyinfoluwa allegedly striking Tope on the head with a blunt object, causing severe injuries.
The attack lasted approximately 20 minutes, during which Officer Tope received no help and was left bleeding on the roadside. The attackers fled immediately after, with Fiyinfoluwa reportedly escaping on a commercial motorcycle.
Amotekun operatives who responded quickly took the injured officer to Wesley Hospital in Ilesa. They also alerted the Divisional Police Headquarters in Ijebu-Jesa and reported the incident to Lt. Col. Yunusa Isyaku at the Engineering Cantonment in Ede.
Despite medical efforts, Officer Tope passed away from his injuries in the early hours of Sunday, July 27, leaving the Amotekun Corps and the local community devastated.
Dr. Omoyele described the attack as a “senseless and reprehensible act” and assured that the Corps is committed to pursuing justice.
The Amotekun Corps has pledged full cooperation with both police and military authorities as investigations continue. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
