Osun Central APC Primary: Senator Fadeyi’s Reaction Unfortunate as Party Supremacy Must Be Respected
*Osun Central APC Primary: Senator Fadeyi’s Reaction Unfortunate as Party Supremacy Must Be Respected*
The attention of concerned leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun Central Senatorial District has been drawn to the public rejection of the recently conducted APC senatorial primary election by Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi Ajagunla.
While every aspirant reserves the constitutional and democratic right to express dissatisfaction and seek redress through legitimate party channels, it is important to state clearly that the integrity of the party and the credibility of its internal democratic processes must not be undermined through inflammatory allegations capable of creating unnecessary tension within the progressive family.
The just concluded senatorial election was midwifed by a credible committee duly assisted by responsible leaders and officers of the party in a process devoid of manipulation or imposition as being insinuated in certain quarters. It was the product of wide consultations, party procedures, stakeholder engagements and the overwhelming confidence reposed in the winner across various tendencies within the party.
The winner of the election, Kunle Adegoke, SAN, remains one of the most long-standing, qualified, experienced and intellectually equipped progressive figures in Osun State today. He has served the party from its inception till date and commands the respect and love of all members who have directly or indirectly benefited from his services to the party.
His emergence has been widely celebrated by party faithful, professionals, youths, women groups and grassroots stakeholders who see in him as a bridge between competence, accessibility and effective representation.
It is therefore disappointing that instead of pursuing reconciliation and internal dispute mechanisms quietly as expected among party leaders, certain narratives are now being pushed publicly in ways capable of heating up the polity and portraying the APC as a divided house before opposition elements.
We must caution against attempts by Senator Fadeyi to demonize a democratic process in which he fully participated after recording a woeful loss.
No political contest or personal interest should be elevated above party unity, collective stability and the bigger progressive agenda under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
It is equally important to remind all party members that APC is bigger than individual ambitions. Victory and disappointment are both permanent features of democratic politics.
What distinguishes true progressives is the maturity to place party interest above temporary personal setbacks.
On the contrary, the just concluded senatorial election is a categorical expression of democratic choice of the people which held without violence or any malpractice whatsoever and no attempt should be made to tamper with the democratic decision of the people.
At this critical period, we appeal to supporters across all divides to avoid inflammatory statements, media attacks and actions capable of weakening the APC ahead of future electoral contests.
The task before Osun APC now is to strengthen our structures, deepen grassroots mobilisation, reconcile all tendencies and prepare collectively for the bigger political responsibilities ahead.
Osun Central deserves focused, competent and effective representation that can attract development, influence national conversations and advance the interests of our people at the highest levels.
We therefore urge all genuine progressives to remain calm, united and committed to the larger interest of the APC and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
