Two teenagers, Jelili and Babatunde, have been apprehended by members of the Nigeria Hunters and Forest Security Service for stealing high-tension electricity cables in Arola village, Ede, Osun State.
According to a security source present at the time of the arrest, the suspects were captured around 3:30 pm on Tuesday while hiding in the bush in Arola village. The suspects had already cut the electricity cables from high-tension poles and were attempting to flee when they were caught.
The source, who requested anonymity for security reasons, revealed that the hunters had been monitoring the suspects’ activities for some time before apprehending them in the act. “We caught them around 3:30 pm inside the bush. The operatives of the Nigeria Hunters and Forest Security Service in Ede arrested the two suspected vandals on Tuesday. They were caught stealing high-tension cables around the Akoda/Arola area in Ede. The first suspect is identified as Babatunde, while the second suspect is Akeem. They are both 19 years old. We have handed them over to the NSCDC officers for further investigation,” the source said.
The source further explained that the criminals had been using the bush for cover, but the hunters’ familiarity with the terrain made it easy to lay in wait and apprehend them.
When contacted, Kehinde Adeleke, the spokesperson for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Osun State, confirmed the suspects were in their custody. “It is true. They are in our custody. The investigation is progressing well. They may go to court on Thursday,” she said.
