In a significant development reshaping Anambra State’s political scene, more than 32,000 former members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) have officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), rallying behind Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, the APC’s gubernatorial candidate for the November 8, 2025 election.
This large-scale defection and show of support unfolded during a high-profile rally and thanksgiving event hosted by the Sustenance of Faith in Governance (SOFIG) Family — popularly called the Ikwukuoma SOFIG Family — in celebration of their sixth anniversary.
The gathering drew thousands of SOFIG members, political leaders, party supporters, and grassroots organizers, marking what many see as a pivotal moment of political realignment in Anambra.
Addressing the crowd, Prince Ukachukwu, affectionately known as Ikwukuoma, expressed deep gratitude for the unwavering support.
“This is the first time I’ve received such wholehearted backing without a single request for money. SOFIG’s commitment is built on faith, love, and shared vision. This is not ordinary politics — this is a purposeful movement grounded in family and community,” he said.
Ukachukwu promised a new chapter of inclusive and principled leadership, stressing the importance of change starting from the grassroots.
“Within this crowd are future councillors, local government chairpersons, and assembly members. We’re nurturing leadership from the bottom up,” he added.
Senator Uche Ekwunife Endorses Ukachukwu as the Change Maker
Senator (Iyom) Uche Ekwunife, the APC deputy governorship candidate, delivered a passionate endorsement, describing Ukachukwu as the leader Anambra desperately needs.
“The time for change has come. Prince Nicholas is a trusted, God-fearing man ready to lead us out of stagnation. Our campaign will begin at the ward level and extend to all 901 wards in Anambra Central and beyond,” she declared.
She also commended SOFIG founders, Dr. (Bar) Kingsley Ezekwelu and Dr. Kenneth Ezekwelu, for establishing a highly influential political movement.
SOFIG’s National President, Dr. Kingsley K. Ezekwelu, Esq., formalized the movement’s support by announcing a generous ₦150 million contribution to the Ukachukwu/Ekwunife campaign.
“We now boast over 35,000 members, including today’s 32,000 defectors from APGA. This is more than endorsement — it’s a mission. We’re ready to win, starting with every PVC,” Dr. Ezekwelu said.
APC Welcomes Defectors with Open Arms
Anambra APC Chairman Chief Basil Ejidike described the mass defection as a historic breakthrough.
“With Prince Ukachukwu, APC is poised to deliver the transformation Anambra has long awaited. The momentum is shifting, and SOFIG has been instrumental in this progress,” he remarked.
Chief Ejidike contributed ₦2 million to SOFIG and pledged continued partnership as the campaign intensifies.
Generous Donations Power Up Campaign
The rally also saw an influx of major financial support:
Chief Mike Duru Ejiogu, Chairman of the event and founder of Akulueuno United Brothers, donated a total of ₦60 million — ₦30 million through the Prince and Princess Group in Abuja to the campaign and ₦30 million to SOFIG.
He also allocated ₦1 million to each local government area to aid ward-level mobilization.
Chief Anthony Ezekwugo pledged ₦1 million for Idemili South and another ₦10 million to SOFIG’s national body.
Engr. John Bosco Onunkwo and the Okwuosa family each contributed ₦1 million.
