Panic Strikes Imo Community After Midnight Explosion Destroys Newly Built Home

Residents of Umuneke, a community in Mbieri, Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State, were left in shock after a powerful explosion rocked the area early on Saturday morning, according to reports from News360 Nigeria.
The blast, which occurred at a newly built family home, completely destroyed the structure, reducing it to debris. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
One resident, Iyke Njoku, described the explosion as deafening, saying, “The bang was so loud, and we waited for a while to see if we would hear any screams or see movement. When we didn’t, we went outside to check and found the house in ruins.”
Njoku added that it was only after neighbors from surrounding villages inquired about the cause of the explosion that they realized the extent of the damage. “The house was a bungalow, and the couple had just finished building it. They were planning to move in by February. It’s heartbreaking that all their hard work has been destroyed.”
Another local, Mr. Emma Emeka, recounted the terrifying moment, saying, “We were at home when we suddenly heard an enormous sound, like an explosion. By the time we rushed outside, the bungalow had been reduced to rubble. It all happened so fast. We didn’t see what caused it or who might be behind it.”
Emeka also noted that people from neighboring villages heard the explosion and were left wondering where it came from. “Now, we’re left watching the once-beautiful house, which the couple had worked so hard to complete, completely destroyed. They had planned to move in this year, but that’s no longer possible. We spent the night anxiously, unsure of whether there would be more attacks.”
Attempts to contact the state police spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, for comment were unsuccessful as his phone was unreachable.
