Pastor Adeboye’s Painful Scam: A Lesson in Trusting Divine Timing

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has recounted a painful experience from his past involving a deceitful scheme. In a recent post on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Adeboye described how he was deceived years ago by an individual who promised him the role of a commandant in a paramilitary organization.

Adeboye shared this story to caution Christians and Nigerians about the dangers of rushing ahead of divine timing. He stressed that while it is natural to pursue ambitious goals, attempting to outpace God’s plan can result in missed opportunities and significant losses.

He emphasized that God orchestrates events in their perfect time and that seeking worldly gains prematurely could lead to losing even greater blessings. Adeboye advised against trying to outsmart God, who knows the best timing and method for fulfilling one’s desires.

Reflecting on his past, Adeboye revealed that his youthful enthusiasm for the military led him to make a poor decision. He recounted how he was contacted by a man who claimed to be seeking a spiritual leader for a new agency that had evolved from a Boy Scouts-like group. Adeboye, driven by his personal ambition, accepted the offer without seeking divine guidance, only to find out later that the man was a fraud.

Adeboye admitted that while he lost money in the scam, the situation could have been far worse. He recognized that God had already planned for Redemption City to have its own chaplains and a local police presence, but he had attempted to fulfill his desire on his own terms.

He concluded by urging people to trust in God’s timing and to let their aspirations unfold in alignment with His plan.
