PDP Crisis: Oyinlola’s Reconciliation Committee Concludes Key South-West Dialogues

The National Reconciliation Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), chaired by former Osun State governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has completed its consultations with stakeholders in the South-West region. The discussions concluded on Wednesday with a press conference at the Government House in Agodi, Ibadan, Oyo State.
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, represented by his deputy Bayo Lawal, urged the PDP’s national leadership to implement the recommendations arising from the stakeholder consultations. He stressed the need for unity and collective effort within the party to achieve the committee’s goals.
Makinde remarked, “We cannot fully express our gratitude for your sacrifices for the party’s advancement. Only God can reward you, especially when your efforts bear fruit.”
He further stated, “As you proceed, it is crucial for the National Working Committee (NWC) to implement the findings from your discussions. If we fail to do this, we risk returning to square one, which we must avoid.”
The governor called upon the NWC, the Board of Trustees, and senior party members to heed the recommendations from the six South-West states, assuring that the committee would provide an honest assessment in their report.
He praised the PDP leadership for creating the reconciliation committee, which includes esteemed party leaders with significant political experience. Makinde expressed confidence that the recommendations from Oyinlola and ex-Gombe governor Ibrahim Dankwambo, who serves as Secretary, will enhance the party’s strength and prepare it for upcoming elections.
Earlier, Oyinlola outlined the committee’s mission to assess the state of the PDP and engage with stakeholders to reconcile discontented members and promote party unity. He noted that after concluding its work in the South-West, the committee would proceed to the South-South region, hopeful that other areas would follow the South-West’s example and collaborate with the committee.
Notable attendees at the briefing included former Deputy Governor of Abia State Ude Chukwu, former Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly Boyelatefa Debekeme, Emma Ogidi, Rahman Owokoniran, and other keyparty figures.
