PDP Dismisses Merger Rumors Ahead of 2027 Election

By Innocent Raphael

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has unequivocally denied engaging in any discussions about merging with other political parties as part of their strategy for the 2027 general election.

Following the 587th meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC), the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, issued a statement to set the record straight.

“After its meeting on June 4, 2024, the National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party confirms that the PDP is not participating in any talks about merging, fusing, or amalgamating with any other political party or entity,” Ologunagba declared.

He highlighted the party’s inclusive approach, welcoming all Nigerians, including those who had previously left the party, and stressed the PDP’s confidence in winning elections through a fair and transparent process.

“The NWC recognizes the significant number of Nigerians joining our party through the ongoing membership drive across all electoral wards nationwide, which reaffirms the PDP’s status as the preferred party for the majority of Nigerians,” Ologunagba added.

Ologunagba called on the public, PDP members, democratic institutions, and the international community to disregard any rumors of a merger with other political parties, emphasizing that such an idea is not under consideration.
