PDP Says Wike’s Open Support for APC Justified His Exit

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said recent remarks by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, have further explained why disciplinary action was taken against him, arguing that it is incompatible to publicly back the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) while claiming membership of an opposition party.

In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the PDP described Wike’s posture as a clear departure from democratic party loyalty, accusing him of repeatedly acting against the collective interests of the party.

Ememobong said that Wike’s open declaration of support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC made it impossible to justify his continued association with the PDP. According to him, such conduct reinforced the need for the party to take firm disciplinary measures.

He added that Wike’s actions have now exposed what the party believes to be deliberate attempts to weaken the PDP in pursuit of personal political arrangements.

The PDP spokesperson assured Nigerians that the party remains united and focused on the future, stating that it will present a strong and credible presidential candidate capable of securing widespread support and victory in the 2027 general election.

He emphasized that the PDP is a collective institution and cannot be controlled or personalised by any individual, regardless of status or influence.
