Peter Obi Declares Intention to Run in 2027 Presidential Election

ABUJA — Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has reassured his supporters both within Nigeria and internationally that he plans to run again in the 2027 presidential race. He emphasized his willingness to serve just one four-year term if elected. Obi also addressed rumors suggesting he had negotiated a joint ticket with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, firmly denying any such agreement.
A statement released on Monday by Ibrahim Umar, spokesperson for Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR), highlighted Obi’s comments during an interactive session on X Space held on Sunday night, where he responded to questions from his supporters.
Obi confirmed his participation in coalition discussions, driven by his commitment to unite patriotic Nigerians and help steer the country away from its current challenges. He stressed, “If the coalition doesn’t focus on stopping the violence in Benue and Zamfara, revitalizing our economy, boosting industrial productivity, and ensuring food security for Nigerians, then I am not interested. Nigeria is facing a critical crisis, and urgent action is needed.”
