Peter Obi’s 2027 Presidential Ambition: A Realistic Hope, Say Yunusa and Utomi
Dr. Tanko Yunusa, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, a group dedicated to supporting Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, is confident that Obi has the potential to win the presidency in 2027. Yunusa believes that Obi’s proven track record and strong credentials will be key to his success in the upcoming election.
Speaking in Onitsha, Anambra State, at a Good Governance Symposium organized by the Obidient Movement in the Southeast, Yunusa expressed optimism that the mistakes of 2023—when Obi was denied victory due to electoral fraud—would not be repeated. He emphasized the movement’s commitment to advocating for electoral reforms, ensuring adequate representation at polling units, and pushing for an Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) chairperson to be chosen by the people, not the president.
Yunusa further argued that with President Bola Tinubu failing to deliver for the North, East, and West, Obi stands as a viable alternative to lead the nation in 2027.
Prof. Pat Utomi, who delivered the keynote address, also voiced his support for Obi’s 2027 bid. He pointed out that after years of failed leadership, the Obidient Movement presents the best hope for bringing about the change Nigeria desperately needs. Utomi stressed that the movement is grounded in sacrifice, and only through collective effort can Nigeria be transformed into a better nation.
Maazi Tochukwu Ezeoke, the convener of the Peter Obi Support Network and the chairman of the symposium’s planning committee, highlighted the significance of the event. He noted that the symposium was aimed at reshaping and strengthening the Obidient Movement in the Southeast, in partnership with local support groups in Anambra State. Ezeoke stated that the gathering was focused on developing strategic plans to ensure the movement’s growth and impact.
Also attending the event were several gubernatorial aspirants from the Labour Party, including Chief Valentine Ozigbo, Chief John Nwosu, and Chief Ikenna Azomcine, who all agreed on the necessity of changing the leadership landscape of Anambra State for the better.
