A tragic incident has occurred at Ajayi Crowther University in Oyo State, where a male student was allegedly beaten to death by fellow students at the Shepherd Inn hostel for allegedly stealing a mobile phone.
According to reports, the victim endured a brutal assault that lasted from 6pm on Friday until 10am on Saturday. It was also reported that his attackers forcibly shaved his head before the beating commenced.
Eyewitnesses shared that the assault began after the victim was accused of stealing a phone. Graphic videos obtained by our correspondent showed the student being violently attacked with sticks while rolling on the hostel floor. In one of the clips, a student can be heard urging others to “hit him harder.”
The university management has confirmed the incident through a statement by spokesperson Femi Atoyebi, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria. The statement clarified that the students involved in the attack have been expelled and turned over to the police for legal action.
Atoyebi emphasized that despite the severity of the incident, there is no evidence of cultism at the university, which maintains a strict policy against anti-social behavior and misconduct.
