The Imo State Police Command’s Quick Intervention Team is investigating five suspected cultists recently detained in Irete, Owerri West Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson Henry Okoye announced on Sunday that the suspects—Uche Ibejiako, 26, from Owerri Municipal; Mariano Daniel, 24, from Delta State; Michael Chukwuemeka, 23, from Umuokwu Izombe, Oguta; and Anointing Ezeh, 23, from Umugada Irete—were apprehended during an operation aimed at tackling cult-related crimes in the area.
The suspects have reportedly admitted to being members of the Black Axe Confraternity, a notorious criminal organization. The police are continuing their investigation to gather additional evidence on their activities. Once the investigation is complete, the suspects will face charges in court.
Police Commissioner Aboki Danjuma emphasized the importance of public cooperation in fighting crime, urging citizens to report any suspicious activities to local police stations.
“Our joint efforts are essential for ensuring peace and security throughout the state,” he said.
