Police Prohibit ‘7/7 Gang Celebration,’ Issue Warnings to Hotels and Bars

The Anambra State Police Command has announced the illegality of the proposed ‘7/7 cult day celebration’ set for Sunday in Awka, the state capital.

The Command has also cautioned hotel owners, bar operators, and event/recreation center proprietors to avoid hosting such gatherings, warning that there will be repercussions for non-compliance.

In a statement released on Saturday, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the state police command, emphasized that events of this nature are banned. He urged the public to heed this prohibition.

Ikenga stated that the police would not hesitate to enforce relevant laws, particularly the newly enacted anti-cultism legislation, against anyone involved in cult activities or actions that could jeopardize the state’s security.

Ikenga affirmed the police and other security agencies’ commitment to maintaining safety and security in Anambra State.

The statement read, “Following information received about a group planning a cult day celebration on July 7, 2024, an event often associated with violence and bloodshed, the police command advises against such activities. The police are dedicated to protecting lives and properties and will not tolerate actions that undermine these efforts.

“The command will deal decisively with any individuals or groups found engaging in cult-related activities, reversing the progress made by security agencies in combating such incidents.

“The command reiterates that these events remain banned and will invoke relevant laws, including the Anti-Cultism law, against anyone participating in cult activities or other acts threatening state security.

“Additionally, the Command warns hoteliers and proprietors of bars and event centers to avoid hosting such gatherings to avoid consequences.

“Parents and guardians are also advised to counsel their wards to abide by the law and avoid actions that could disrupt peace in the state.”
