Policeman Who Rejected ₦150M Bribe, Reveal What He Wanted; See Details

Superintendent Ibrahim Sini: Choosing Integrity Over a ₦150 Million Bribe

Ibrahim Sini

Superintendent of Police Ibrahim Sini has shared his reasons for rejecting a ₦150 million bribe allegedly offered by Lagos businessman Akintoye Akindele. Sini emphasized his desire for peace of mind over wealth, a decision that underscores his commitment to integrity.

Akindele, who was charged with bribery at the Federal High Court in Abuja in August 2023, is currently remanded at the Kuje correctional facility. According to court documents, the bribe was intended to persuade the police to let Akindele flee the country and to ensure a favorable investigative report.

Sini, who led the Inspector General of Police’s investigative team on the case, recounted the incident during a dinner held in his honor in Abuja. He said, “When the incident occurred, the individual asked me, ‘Do you want to be rich? This is your opportunity.’ My response was that I prefer the kind of wealth that allows me to sleep peacefully at night. I don’t want to live in fear or regret. I chose to do what was right for my peace of mind, for the Nigeria Police, and for the country.”

Sini also advised Nigerian youths to uphold their integrity, stating, “Integrity matters. It’s possible to face numerous challenges and still remain upright. Nigeria is our country, and it will be great.”

At the event, Sini was awarded a plot of land in Abuja. Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police Benneth Igweh, presenting the land documents, commended Sini’s actions. “Your conduct has brought pride to the Nigeria Police Force. We hope other officers will follow your example,” Igweh remarked.

Chukwuemeka Okoye, CEO of Vegas Homes and event organizer, praised Sini’s exemplary behavior, highlighting its significance for the police force. “SP Sini’s integrity has inspired many and shown that the Nigerian Police Force has officers of high ethical standards. This honor not only recognizes Sini’s commendable conduct but also signifies society’s appreciation for individuals of integrity,” Okoye said.
