The Board of Trustees at Iresi Community Polytechnic in Iresi, Osun State, has introduced a series of measures aimed at eliminating student involvement in internet fraud, commonly known as “yahoo yahoo.”
Following a recent board meeting, the Trustees expressed concern over the widespread issue of internet fraud among the nation’s youth and announced the launch of an initiative named “Operation No Yahoo” to address this problem within the institution.
In a statement, the Polytechnic’s Public Relations Officer, Alade Adesesan, explained that Board Chairman, Chief Oludaisi Aina, outlined the initiative’s objectives, emphasizing that it would actively discourage students from participating in fraudulent activities.
Chief Aina, accompanied by other Board members, the Governing Council, and representatives from Oluresi-in-Council, emphasized the institution’s commitment to encouraging the proper use of Information and Communication Technology knowledge among its students.
He noted that the efforts to deter internet fraud would extend beyond the polytechnic to include the local community’s youth. “Our strategy involves innovation. The school will create a hub to help students develop their talents. This initiative is for both the community and the student body. ‘Operation No Yahoo’ will be more than just a statement; it will be implemented through concrete actions,” he said.
This initiative, supported by a partnership with a Fintech community, aims to train, develop, and support the youth in constructive endeavors that will improve their lives and benefit society. The polytechnic will also closely monitor its students and implement educational programs in cooperation with law enforcement, contributing to the institution’s crime-free environment.
Regarding future plans, Chief Aina reaffirmed Iresi community’s dedication to providing world-class education, preparing students to meet future challenges and opportunities.
