Press Release: PDP NWC Announces Suspension of Key Officials

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held its 593rd meeting on Thursday, October 10, 2024, during which it decided to suspend National Publicity Secretary Hon. Debo Ologunagba and National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Adeyemi Ajibade, SAN.

To address this situation, the NWC has formed an investigation committee led by Deputy National Chairman (South), H.E. Amb. Taofeek Arapaja. This committee will look into the allegations against the suspended officials in line with the party’s constitutional framework.

Starting Friday, October 11, 2024, the NWC has appointed their deputies—Ibrahim Abdullahi Manga, Esq. as Acting National Publicity Secretary and Barr. Okechukwu Osuoha as Acting National Legal Adviser—to take on their duties until the investigation concludes.

The NWC calls on all party leaders, stakeholders, and committed members to remain unified and focused as it continues to manage the PDP’s affairs for the greater good.

Press Release Regarding Allegations Against Acting National Chairman and National Secretary

The NWC of the PDP has thoroughly reviewed multiple complaints concerning Acting National Chairman Amb. Illiya Damagum and National Secretary Sen. Samuel Anyanwu. These complaints specifically relate to their submission to the Court of Appeal in case No: CA/PH/307/2024, which contradicts the party’s stance regarding the departure of 27 former members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who switched to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The NWC has denounced the actions of the Acting National Chairman and National Secretary as anti-party activities, which violate both the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017) and their Oath of Office.

As a result, the NWC has suspended Amb. Illiya Damagum and Sen. Samuel Anyanwu from their respective positions and referred them to the National Disciplinary Committee for further proceedings. They are prohibited from participating in any NWC meetings, activities, or programs until the investigation is completed.

Signed:

Hon. Debo Ologunagba
