Reasons Behind Former Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke’s Divorce Revealed in Court Documents
New details have surfaced regarding the dissolution of the marriage between Diezani Alison-Madueke, the former Minister of Petroleum Resources, and her husband, Admiral Alison Amaechina Madueke.
Admiral Madueke, who previously served as the Chief of Naval Staff, filed a petition on July 2, 2024, at the Lagos State High Court, seeking a legal decree to end his marriage to Diezani. He also requested the court to mandate that Diezani cease using his surname, arguing that her continued use of his name could harm his reputation and expose him to unintended liabilities due to the corruption allegations she faces.
According to reliable sources, the former minister had already initiated a divorce suit on November 26, 2021, at a high court in Mararaba Gurku, Nasarawa State. In her petition, a copy of which was reviewed by our correspondent, Diezani sought the dissolution of her marriage on the grounds that it had irretrievably broken down.
The petition highlighted that the couple had lived separately for over three years preceding the filing, and that the respondent, Admiral Madueke, had not cohabitated with the petitioner for more than a year before the petition was submitted.
