Reasons I compare Peter Obi with Donald Trump by Tinubu’s Aide, Temitope Ajayi

Temitope Ajayi, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to President Bola Tinubu, has drawn a parallel between Nigeria’s Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and former US President Donald Trump. This comparison came in response to the recent US presidential debate between Trump and Democratic contender Vice President Kamala Harris.

In a social media post, Ajayi remarked, “Peter Obi is Nigeria’s version of Donald Trump. Much like Trump, Obi is known for using harsh and provocative language to make his point and energize his supporters.”
The debate saw Harris and Trump clashing on various topics including abortion and immigration as they vied for voter support in the closely contested race. Ajayi noted, “Kamala Harris effectively challenged Trump during their debate. She clearly outperformed him and demonstrated her capabilities.”
Ajayi further commented on the debate dynamics, stating, “Harris identified Trump’s vulnerabilities and strategically exposed them. Trump, on the other hand, was frequently fact-checked, with 33 false statements made in just 90 minutes compared to Harris’s one incorrect claim.”
Reports indicated Trump’s repeated engagement with Harris’s provocations and his propagation of conspiracy theories, including baseless claims about immigrants. One notable false claim was Trump’s assertion that immigrants were consuming pets, which was promptly debunked by local officials.
The 2024 US elections are set for November 5, 2024.
