S3x Workers in Kano Urge End to Protests Amid Decreased Business

Sex workers in Kano have called on the organizers of the nationwide hunger protests to engage with the Federal Government to seek a resolution. They have reported that the ongoing demonstrations have significantly disrupted their business and left them struggling financially.
Monica James, who works on France Road, expressed that dialogue is essential for resolving the issues behind the protests. “I haven’t eaten in two days due to the curfew; our usual clients are absent,” she noted. James urged protest organizers to halt their actions and negotiate with the government to restore normalcy.
Deborah Iliya, working on Yoruba Road, echoed James’ concerns, describing the situation as dire due to the lack of customers. Similarly, Hannatu Ibrahim from Weather Head area also joined the call for an end to the protests, stressing the need for a return to normalcy.
Caroline James, operating from a brothel on Enugu Street in Sabon Gari, lamented that the protests and ensuing violence had disrupted her business. She mentioned that clients who had booked appointments for between N30,000 and N40,000 could not make it due to the curfew and unrest.
Another sex worker, who wished to remain anonymous, revealed that the lack of clients had forced some workers to share rooms. She appealed for a relaxation of the curfew, emphasizing its severe impact on their livelihood.
Moses John, a bar attendant, noted that the curfew had also affected the hospitality sector in Sabon Gari, with hotels and bars struggling due to a lack of patrons. Kenneth John, who sells goat heads on Aitken Road, reported that the curfew had disrupted business and led to losses, including due to power outages.
