Witness Testifies on Journalist’s N1.4 Million Fraud Case
In a session at the Yaba Magistrates’ Court, details emerged about a fraud involving lawyer Moses John Jackson and veteran journalist Segun Adeleke, who lost N1.4 million.
Jackson was apprehended by the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCID), Yaba, Lagos, following a petition submitted on May 23, 2018, by Segun Adenuga.
Investigation Police Officer (IPO) Okanya Johnson informed Magistrate Yeside Balogun that a written complaint had been received from Adenuga against Jackson. Johnson emphasized his familiarity with the defendant.
He recounted: “On January 25, 2018, a petition from Segun Adenuga was received, accusing Moses Jackson of fraud. I was assigned to investigate.”
Johnson further explained that Jackson had served as legal counsel for the complainant. From 2002 to December 9, 2009, Jackson managed the property of Adenuga’s mother at 19 Ramoni Street, Ikate, Surulere, Lagos, collecting rent on their behalf.
The IPO stated that Jackson suggested obtaining a letter of administration to increase the property’s value. In 2009, the complainant’s family decided to sell the property. Jackson advised procuring the letter to enhance its value. Adenuga provided Jackson with N280,000 and N500,000, in addition to the collected rent, for this purpose.
However, Jackson failed to secure the letter and sold the property at a lower price, causing family disputes. Johnson noted that on May 3, 2018, Jackson denied these allegations in his statement.
