Two Sisters Arrested In Pakistan For Setting Father On Fire In Revenge For Rape
Pakistani police have arrested two teenage sisters accused of murdering their father by setting him on fire in retaliation for years of sexual abuse.
The incident took place in the city of Gujranwala on January 1, and the father succumbed to his injuries in hospital on Tuesday.
“The girls said that they decided amongst themselves to find a ‘permanent solution,'” Rizwan Tariq, a senior police official in the city, told AFP.
He further elaborated that the sisters used petrol from a motorcycle and ignited their father while he was asleep.
The step-sisters revealed that their father had been raping the eldest girl for a year, and had made two attempts to assault the younger sibling.
Their mothers, both married to the man, were aware of the abuse but were uninformed of the sisters’ revenge plan.
To protect the identities of the girls, who have different maternal backgrounds, the man’s name has not been disclosed. Authorities have also detained one mother, while the other is under investigation.
“We expect to present them before the court in a few days, as soon as we finish the investigation,” Tariq added.
