See Names of Tinubu appointee as governing boards for federal tertiary institutions

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointments of 55 people into the governing boards of federal universities, polytechnics and Colleges of Education

This is according to an advertorial by the Federal Ministry of Education. The advertorial signed the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack said the 555 persons are to serve as Pro-chancellors/Chairmen and members of Governing Boards of 111 federal universities, polytechnics and Colleges of Education.

The advertorial said : “The inauguration and retreat for the Governing Councils will take place on Thursday, May 30 and Friday, May 31, 2024, at the National Universities Commission, 26 Aguiyi Ironsi Street, Maitama, Abuja. Both events will commence at 9:00am daily”.

The development is expected to get the Academic Staff Union of Universities to change its mind about going on strike.

The National Universities Commission says the Federal Government is already working to reconstitute the governing councils of 61 federal universities, so it is not necessary for the Academic Staff Union of Universities to go on strike. The ASUU had given the Federal Government a two-week ultimatum to put in place the governing councils failing which its members would embark on strike.

However, the Executive Secretary of the NUC, Chris Maiyaki, said, the Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman, had set up a panel to work on the list of the people who would be on the councils.

He said: “To reconstitute the councils of 61 universities is not a small feat. Government is working to ensure that people that are qualified and with the right pedigree are put in those councils”.
