See The Number of People Trailer Crushes To Death On Calabar-Itu Highway

A tragic accident occurred on Friday afternoon along the deteriorating Calabar-Itu federal highway, resulting in the deaths of 17 individuals. The collision involved a containerized trailer and a commercial 16-seater bus traveling from Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, to Calabar.
According to eyewitness accounts, the trailer veered off its lane and collided directly with the bus, crushing it completely. The impact was so severe that all 17 occupants—including 16 passengers and the driver—were killed instantly.
An eyewitness who identified himself as Emmanuel described the scene as “horrific,” noting that there were no survivors. He attributed the accident to the poor state of the Calabar-Itu highway, which has been under repair for over 15 years with little progress.
At the time of reporting, community members and concerned individuals had evacuated the victims’ bodies to an undisclosed mortuary.
Attempts to obtain statements from officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the police in Calabar were unsuccessful, as both agencies declined to comment on the incident.
