Two police officers and a driver were killed by gunmen in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State during an attempted kidnapping of Mrs. Christy Uroye, wife of Augustine Uroye, a lawmaker representing Warri South Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, on Monday night.

According to eyewitnesses, the attackers opened fire on the SUV transporting Mrs. Uroye along Jakpa Road, killing the three individuals in an attempt to abduct her. The gunmen’s getaway vehicle crashed during their escape, which allowed for Mrs. Uroye’s rescue.

Mrs. Uroye is currently receiving treatment at a nearby private hospital. Local residents fled the area during the attack to avoid being hit by stray bullets.

Delta State Command Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident but noted that the kidnapping attempt was ultimately unsuccessful. He also reported that three AK-47 rifles were recovered from the suspects’ vehicle.

A family source, who requested anonymity, confirmed that the abductors’ vehicle was involved in an accident during the pursuit, leading to Mrs. Uroye’s rescue. The source did not provide information on whether the abductors were apprehended.
