In a recent operation in Imo State, security forces engaged in a fierce gun battle with suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its militant wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), resulting in the deaths of four individuals and the arrest of five others. The encounter took place in the Ezioha area of Eziama Autonomous Community in Mbaitoli Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson Henry Okoye confirmed on Sunday that the operation had also affected surrounding areas, including Njaba, underscoring the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure public safety across the state.
Okoye stated, “Security forces successfully neutralized four individuals believed to be terrorists and apprehended five more after a prolonged exchange of gunfire.”
He added that several items were seized during the operation, including eight motorcycles, a variety of weapons, explosive devices, and communication gear associated with IPOB/ESN members.
The operation received praise from Imo’s Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, and Brigadier General U.A. Lawal, the Commander of the 34 Artillery Brigade in Obinze, who acknowledged the skill and professionalism of the joint security team.
This operation is part of ongoing efforts to protect local communities, particularly during the festive season, the authorities said.
