See The Numbers of Persons FEMD Rescues from Collapsed Building in Abuja

Two individuals have been rescued from the debris of a collapsed duplex under construction at Close 10, Drive 5, Second Gate, Prince and Princess Estate in Gudu District, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
Florence Wenegieme, the acting director-general of the Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department (FEMD), made this announcement in a statement on Saturday.
Wenegieme emphasized the need for employing professional builders and providing protective gear for on-site workers to ensure their safety. She also urged developers to offer insurance coverage for both the construction site and the workers.
She stated, “FEMD received a distress call at approximately 6:45 pm, and we immediately activated NEMA, the FCT Fire Service, and the Department of Development Control.”
All workers evacuated the building as soon as they noticed signs of an imminent collapse. However, two individuals in a detached bungalow behind the building were trapped by the rubble.
The FEMD search and rescue team successfully rescued the trapped individuals by cutting through the window protectors.
Wenegieme called on developers and the public to adhere to building codes consistently. She also recommended conducting integrity tests on existing buildings before starting any renovations.
TPL Mukhtar Galadima, the Director of the Department of Development Control, was present at the incident scene.
