Gunmen have reportedly killed two security personnel at the Isiala-Mbano Local Government Area (LGA) headquarters in Imo State. The attack occurred around 8:30 pm on Tuesday, when the assailants arrived and began shooting indiscriminately.
According to a witness, the attackers not only killed the security officers on duty but also set fire to parts of the council building and several vehicles parked on the premises. The motive behind the attack is believed to be related to the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections taking place across the state’s 27 LGAs and 306 wards.
The source mentioned that the assailants may have targeted the council headquarters, mistakenly thinking it was the venue for the APC primaries. Many individuals at the scene managed to escape, though some sustained various injuries.
