The Edo State Police Command has pledged to support and safeguard protesters, provided their demonstrations are conducted peacefully.
In a briefing on Wednesday evening, State Commissioner of Police, CP Funsho Adegboye, affirmed that citizens have the right to protest. He stated, “We have met with protest leaders and agreed that the demonstrations must remain peaceful. We will ensure their safety, but there must be no road blockages or violence.”
Adegboye also noted that residents not participating in the protests will be free to continue their daily activities without disruption. “The police will assist protesters with sachet water and sweets. The protests are authorized to take place only at Kings Square, the designated venue,” he added.
The Commissioner also issued a warning to potential troublemakers, emphasizing that they will be dealt with firmly if they attempt to disrupt the peaceful nature of the protests.
