The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) will convene with vice-chancellors of universities, rectors of polytechnics, and provosts of colleges of education, among other educational stakeholders, on July 18, 2024, to establish the minimum cut-off marks for admissions.

As reported by The PUNCH, JAMB released the results of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) on April 29, 2024. Out of 1,904,189 candidates who took the exam, 8,401 scored 300 and above, 77,070 scored 250 and above, 439,974 scored 200 and above, while 1,402,490 scored below the 200 mark.

The upcoming meeting, which will be chaired by the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, will involve the presentation of reports by the JAMB Registrar on the recently concluded UTME and ongoing Direct Entry applications. This presentation will also include an analysis of key performance indicators that could influence government admission policies.

The notice stated, “During the exercise, the Registrar will present reports on the just-concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and the ongoing Direct Entry applications, while also analyzing key performance indicators that could shape the policy directions of the government in the area of admission. Additionally, the meeting will review issues from previous admission cycles and assess the current year’s UTME performance to set the minimum admissible score.”

Historically, stakeholders have agreed on the minimum admission requirements for universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education during such meetings. This year’s meeting will set the admission criteria and initiate the admission process for the current academic year.
