Inspector David Maina, a Kenyan police officer, suffered a severe injury during a protest in Nairobi last week when a teargas canister accidentally detonated, resulting in the loss of both his hands.

Maina, who is part of the Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU), was confronting protesters in Nairobi city center on Tuesday, June 18. The protest was reportedly against the finance bill. During efforts to disperse the crowd, which included the use of water cannons and teargas, the tragic accident occurred.
Inspector Maina is currently receiving treatment at Nairobi West Hospital.
