See When Lagos Red Line Will Begin Passenger Service

Full passenger operations on the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Red Line are set to commence on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, according to Engr. Abimbola Akinajo, Managing Director of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA).
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu will inaugurate the passenger service, accompanied by members of his executive council and other dignitaries, as they take part in the first fee-paying trip with commuters.
Engr. Akinajo announced that daily train services will start from Agbado at 6:00 am, marking a shift from the previous schedule that began at 9:00 am from Oyingbo. This adjustment means that the first train will now arrive in Agbado by 10:07 am, aligning with the official launch of commercial operations.
Akinajo explained that this new timetable is based on data collected during testing phases, including trials with non-paying passengers. The revised schedule focuses on origin trips from Agbado, catering to commuters traveling to key areas like Ikeja, Oshodi, and Lagos Island.
For those whose journeys conclude on Lagos Island, shuttle buses will be available at the Oyingbo bus terminal to facilitate further travel.
It’s important to note that the infrastructure for the Red Line was inaugurated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on February 29, 2024. The first phase of the Red Line stretches 27 kilometers and includes eight stations: Oyingbo, Yaba, Mushin, Oshodi, Ikeja, Agege, Iju, and Agbado.
