Stop Blaming President Tinubu, Be Honest About Why You Want to Join APC, Akin Adeyi Tells Governor Adeleke
Stop Blaming President Tinubu, Be Honest About Why You Want to Join APC, Akin Adeyi Tells Governor Adeleke
July 13, 2025
Recent developments in Osun State politics have only reinforced the belief that the Adeleke political dynasty has found itself in deep turmoil. There’s a popular Yoruba term, “gau,” often used to describe someone in serious trouble. While commonly assumed to be of local origin, “gau” is actually a corrupted form of the English word “gallows,” which refers to a place of execution, and by extension, serious consequences. In the political context, the Adeleke family seems to have walked right into such a storm.
The latest political twist came as reports surfaced that the Adelekes are making plans to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC). While this isn’t the first time such rumors have emerged—and while official statements have been quick to dismiss them—the consistency and timing of these rumors suggest there may be more than meets the eye.
Governor Adeleke’s administration has often been criticized for lacking transparency, and many of its public denials fail to align with behind-the-scenes actions. Claims that President Tinubu is pressuring them to join the APC appear to be nothing more than strategic blackmail—an attempt to cover up their own motivations while misleading the public.
The truth, according to political insiders, is that the Adeleke family, under the direction of Dr. Deji Adeleke, is exploring a move to the APC for reasons that extend beyond politics. Unverified but persistent reports suggest that this move may be aimed at shielding personal business interests, which are allegedly under scrutiny by anti-corruption agencies. If true, this has little to do with governance and everything to do with self-preservation.
Notably, it has been observed that some members of the Adeleke family have made multiple visits to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja—far more than would be considered routine. This odd frequency only adds fuel to the speculation that their political maneuvers are tied to legal or financial pressures.
To those in Governor Adeleke’s camp who are celebrating a potential move to the APC—despite their long history of vilifying the party and its members—one must ask: where is your integrity? How can you now embrace the same party you once accused, attacked, and tried to discredit? How do you reconcile this sudden change of heart with the insults and damage previously directed at prominent APC figures like Oyetola, Iyiola Omisore, Baba Shuaibu, Dotun Babayemi, Kayode Oduoye, Akin Ogunbiyi, and myself—Akin Adeyi—whose property was destroyed just a week into their administration?
This is not about political strategy anymore; it’s about accountability, consistency, and honesty with the people of Osun State. If the Adelekes wish to switch parties, they should do so with courage and clarity—not by casting blame or spreading misleading narratives about coercion. The people deserve to know the truth, not be fed another round of half-truths wrapped in political spin.
