Tinubu Breaks 54-Year Silence: First President to Address Igbo Needs Since the Civil War – Benjamin Kalu

Benjamin Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, has lauded President Bola Tinubu for his unwavering commitment to the Igbo people, calling him the first president to “remember the Igbo” since the Nigerian Civil War.

Speaking at an empowerment event in Ndoki, Ukwa East, on Saturday, Kalu highlighted the South East Development Commission (SEDC) as a significant initiative that underscores Tinubu’s dedication to addressing the region’s development challenges.

“The president has done a lot for the Igbo people and continues to make efforts for their betterment,” Kalu stated. “He is the first leader to revisit the promises of reconstruction, reconciliation, and rehabilitation made to Ndigbo 54 years ago.”

Kalu emphasized that the SEDC, which was signed into law to tackle the region’s infrastructural deficits, marks the beginning of a much-needed post-war reconstruction for the South East.

At the event, over 3,000 members from various political parties defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), a move Kalu attributed to Tinubu’s leadership and his commitment to regional development.

“He embodies equity and fairness,” Kalu said. “Tinubu is a leader who prioritizes development.”

Kalu also praised the expanding influence of the APC, noting, “As the leader of our party, the president has tasked us with uniting the grassroots and aligning them with the politics of development he is bringing to Igbo land.”

He welcomed the new APC members, assuring them that their decision to join the party would be beneficial. “For joining the APC, it shall be well with you. The party is now closer to the people,” Kalu affirmed.
