Tinubu Names 22 New Appointees Across Key Federal Agencies

In a significant move aimed at enhancing the efficiency of federal institutions and pushing forward governance reforms, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed 22 new leaders to head various government agencies and commissions.
The announcement, made on Saturday evening by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, was shared through his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, @aonanuga1956.
Among the high-profile appointments are:
Senator Ken Nnamani, former Senate President from Enugu State, who will now chair the Nigerian Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS).
Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, ex-Senate President and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, appointed Chairman of the National Merit Awards Committee.
Ibrahim Shehu Shema, a former Governor of Katsina State, has been named Chairman of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA).
Philip Shaibu, previously Deputy Governor of Edo State, is now the Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Sports, underscoring the government’s focus on youth and sports development.
Comrade Isa Aremu, a respected labour leader and former NLC Vice President from Kwara State, will serve as Director-General of the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies.
Other notable appointments include:
Yazid Shehu Umar Danfulani (Zamfara) as Managing Director of the Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation (NAIC), with Abubakar Umar Jarengol (Adamawa) and Babaranti Ayandayo Rasheed (Osun) as Executive Directors.
Dr. Asabe Vilita Bashir (Borno) is to lead the National Centre for Women Development, while Omobolanle Akinyemi-Obe (Ondo) will head the National Senior Citizens Centre.
Dr. Segun Aina (Osun) becomes Director-General of the Academic Staff College of Nigeria.
At the National Population Commission, Senator Jalo Zarami (Yobe) and Dr. Joseph Haruna Kigbu (Nasarawa) have been appointed as Federal Commissioners to support data and demographic initiatives.
In economic empowerment, Hamza Ibrahim Baba (Kano) will serve as National Program Manager of the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP), supporting grassroots enterprises.
Other strategic appointments include:
Abubakar Adamu (Benue) as Executive Secretary of the Agricultural Research Council.
Mohammed Lawal Ibrahim (Kogi) and Abdullahi Mohammed (Katsina) as Executive Directors at the Nigeria–Sao Tome Joint Development Authority.
Senator Kabir Abdullahi Barkiya (Katsina) to chair the Nigerian Agricultural Land Development Authority.
Dr. Shuaibu Shehu Aliyu (Kaduna) as Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy.
Professor Almustapha Alhaji Aliyu (Sokoto) to lead NNPC Gas Marketing Limited (NGML), a critical arm of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company.
These appointments reflect the administration’s intention to inject fresh leadership into key public institutions and ensure effective service delivery nationwide.
