Tinubu Sets ₦70,000 Minimum Wage, Commits to Triennial Reviews
In a significant move, President Bola Tinubu has approved a new minimum wage of ₦70,000 for Nigerian workers, along with a commitment to review this wage every three years.
During a meeting held in Abuja on Thursday with leaders from the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), President Tinubu also pledged to explore ways to support the private sector and state governments in meeting the new wage standards. This meeting marked the second time the parties have convened within a week.
Labour leaders praised President Tinubu for his supportive measures. Additionally, the President vowed to use his discretionary powers to address the demands of university unions, which include the payment of four months’ worth of unpaid salaries.
