Tinubu Urges Military to Strike at Bandits’ Strongholds, Intensifies Fight Against Terrorism

President Bola Tinubu has called on the Nigerian military to take the battle against insurgents directly to the hideouts of bandits and terrorists. This directive follows recent attacks on the military base in Damboa, Borno State, where several soldiers tragically lost their lives.

Tinubu specifically highlighted the need for focused action in the Northwest, where criminal groups continue to endanger the lives and properties of vulnerable communities.

The president expressed deep sympathy to the military leadership for the loss of six soldiers during a terrorist attack on January 4, 2025. His condolence message, issued through his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, also extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers, acknowledging their heroic sacrifice in the defense of the nation.

In light of the attack, Tinubu called for a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the incident and ensure lessons are learned to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

He praised the armed forces for their swift response, particularly commending the air component’s successful retaliatory strikes that resulted in the significant neutralization of terrorists and the destruction of their assets as they attempted to escape.

“The actions of our military reinforce our commitment to eliminate terrorism and banditry, bringing us closer to a peaceful and secure future for all Nigerians,” Tinubu stated. “On behalf of the nation, I extend my gratitude and sympathy to our military and security forces. Your sacrifices are deeply appreciated, and we stand by you in this ongoing struggle.”

The president reaffirmed his call for the military to take the fight to the insurgents’ camps, with a special focus on the Northwest, where these criminal groups continue to pose a grave threat to local communities.
