Tragedy in Sokoto: Seven Dead as Canoe Capsizes on River Crossing
A tragic boat accident claimed the lives of seven people, including the canoe operator, on June 2, 2025, in Sokoto State. The victims were traveling between Gidan Hussaini and Sabon Garin Hussaini when their canoe overturned mid-journey.
The incident occurred around 11:00 a.m., according to local sources familiar with the situation. Unfortunately, all passengers on board were confirmed dead.
In the immediate aftermath, security personnel were dispatched to the site to secure the area and manage the gathering crowd, including concerned relatives.
Local rescue teams conducted recovery operations, retrieving the bodies from the water. The remains were later handed over to the families for burial in accordance with local customs.
