Tragedy Strikes: See the Number of Lives Lost in Jigawa Tanker Explosion, Governor Reports to President Tinubu

Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the State House yesterday to discuss the tragic tanker explosion that occurred in the state, which resulted in 181 fatalities.

The meeting served to both welcome the President back from his annual leave and to provide an update on the disaster, which also left 80 individuals hospitalized and impacted over 200 families. After the meeting, Governor Namadi expressed gratitude for the President’s prompt response, noting that a delegation was sent to Jigawa shortly after the incident.

“The people of Jigawa State are grateful for the swift action taken by Mr. President,” he stated. The governor also outlined the state’s relief efforts, including the coverage of medical expenses for the injured and support for families to help them recover.

When questioned about the reasons for the high number of casualties, Governor Namadi remarked, “Are you asking God or me?” He emphasized the state’s dedication to ongoing recovery efforts and revealed that a high-powered committee has been formed to investigate the incident and prevent similar occurrences in the future, which will be led by a retired deputy inspector general of police.

Additionally, President Tinubu has directed the Federal Road Safety Corps to carry out a comprehensive investigation and recommend long-term solutions to avert such tragedies.
