Transmission Company of Nigeria Denies Grid Collapse, Clarifies Benin-Omotosho Line Issue

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has refuted claims circulating in the media that the national electricity grid collapsed today, describing the reports as false.
According to TCN, at approximately 13:41 hours, the Osogbo-Ihovbor line experienced a trip, followed by the tripping of the Benin-Omotosho line, which affected power supply to the Lagos area. However, the grid did not collapse as widely suggested.
TCN clarified that, prior to the trippings, the total generation on the grid stood at 4,335.63MW. After the incidents, generation dropped to 2,573.23MW, which clearly indicates that there was no collapse of the grid.
The affected power plants, including Egbin, Olorunsogo, Omotosho, Geregu, and Paras, have all resumed operations, except for the Benin-Omotosho 330kV line, which is still undergoing restoration.
TCN emphasized that while it remains committed to strengthening the transmission grid despite challenges, it is crucial to avoid spreading false information that could cause public confusion. The company calls for responsible reporting based on accurate and verified facts.
