Troops of the Nigerian Army have apprehended two suspected terrorists in Rafin Kada, Donga Local Government Area of Taraba State.
In a statement released on Sunday night, Army spokesperson Lieutenant Oni Olubodunde of the 6 Brigade and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) disclosed that the arrests occurred on July 11. Two motorcycles used by the suspects were also confiscated.
“The operation, conducted by troops stationed in Akate in Donga Local Government Area, was launched following intelligence reports of an armed terrorist attack in Geshi village,” Olubodunde said. “Acting on this information, the troops swiftly mobilized to the area, engaging the terrorists in a fierce gun battle. The troops’ superior firepower forced the terrorists to flee into the bush with gunshot wounds.”
The troops pursued the fleeing criminals, ultimately capturing two notorious terrorists along with their motorcycles. The suspects are currently in custody for interrogation.
Brigade Commander Kingsley Uwa praised the troops for their bravery, swift response, and dedication to duty. “This operation demonstrates our unwavering commitment to eradicating kidnapping, banditry, and other criminal activities in Taraba State,” he said, emphasizing that efforts to rid the state of criminal elements would be intensified.
In a related development, Lieutenant Olubodunde reported that troops on routine patrol in the Jalingo metropolis found a missing nine-year-old girl wandering in her school uniform at Gongomaliki in Yorro LGA. Preliminary investigations to identify her school and locate her parents or guardians were initially unsuccessful, so the girl was taken to Brigade headquarters for custody.
The girl was later identified as a pupil of Glory Children Academy. Troops visited the school and met the headteacher, who informed them that she had been missing for about 24 hours and that the case had been reported to the Jalingo Police Division. The girl was subsequently reunited with her parents.
